In the current assessment-focused environment of higher ed, it’s great to read something about baseball! What’s the connection? The movie “Moneyball” tells the story of the Oakland Athletics ball team, who used a series of sophisticated statistical analyses as a basis for their game – and won. Can education do the same? Can “learning analytics” become the basis of understanding why, when, and how students leave college? or conversely, under what conditions they will succeed at college?
