Overview:

Crane, a premier manufacturer of fine stationery, currency and nonwoven papers, currently has an opening for a Safety Specialist within the Technical Materials Division, located in Dalton, MA.
Responsibilities:

This position will drive, safety initiatives for the Technical Materials Division by utilizing observation based methods and utilizing leadership attributes to be able to engage the workforce to promote a culture of safe work practices.   This position will be responsible for coaching leadership and employees regarding improving workplace safety, compliance, training coordination and coordinating incident investigations.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Manufacturing areas and communicate regularly with personnel to identify safety issues and opportunities for improvement. Work with leadership and other applicable personnel to address issues and identify improvement opportunities
  • In conjunction with leadership, ensure consistent implementation of Safe Production and Ergonomics Programs and compliance with Environmental, FDA, ISO, OSHA, and other safety standards that may apply
  • Develop and implement procedures and programs to enhance a safe work environment and prevent workplace injuries
  • Interpret OSHA regulations and provide consultation to management regarding potential vulnerable areas
  • Analyze and report key metrics in the area of safety incidents
  • Manage incidents to include reporting, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Lead Safe Production/Ergonomic Meetings with applicable personnel to emphasize the company’s safety goals and applicable safety programs
  • Conduct incident investigations for manufacturing areas as needed. Document regular work site Safe Production/Ergonomic audits, and prepare documentation as requested by management and required by statute
  • Conduct appropriate safety training in a timely manner and as required
  • Record Safety Training and other safety and environmental documentation as needed
  • Review on an annual basis all safety policies and procedures to ensure content is in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ensure environmental issues are managed in accordance with Company, local, state and federal rules and regulations

 
Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited college
  • Prefer a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field (or educational programs + experience)
  • Formal training in industrial safety/hygiene
  • A minimum of 5 years working as an Industrial Safety Officer in a manufacturing environment
  • High level of computer literacy, i.e. the ability to effectively use a computer for data gathering, analysis and presentation
  • Must demonstrate ability to keep reliable historical records
  • Demonstrated ability managing confidential information
  • Certification in First Aid (every 3 years)/CPR (every 2 years)
  • Certification in OSHA compliance (every 4 years)
  • Certification in Haz Mat first response (annual)
  • Certification in DOT (every 3 years)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 requirements for record keeping and documentation
  • Knowledge of Company policies and procedures
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and leadership
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to be able to manage and communicate change effectively
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must possess excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to prioritize, work efficiently and accurately as well as provide and follow instructions
  • Must be available for 24/7 manufacturing operations, including weekend and off shift hours
  • Must also show an ability, through demonstrated experience, to accomplish the following: conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental, health and safety requirements; develop, update and manage workplace safety programs and procedures participate on teams and initiatives, as requested.
  • Valid Driver’s license to allow inter-mill travel and to attend off-site meetings and/or technical seminars
  • Ability to travel domestic and abroad as needed
