Does Education Need a Digital (& Conceptual) Upgrade?

davidsonIn “Now You See It,” Cathy Davidson of the MacArthur Foundation suggests that we need a fundamental change in the way we are educating, based on the fact that those children entering school now will have jobs in the future we cannot even imagine. She makes some radical suggestions; for example, let students write blogs in place of term papers. She brings forward evidence that the same student who writes a terrible term paper can in some cases write an elegant, original, and analytical series of blog posts. She raises the question: are we giving our digital children stone tools with which to succeed? Have a look at this review, and read the book when it comes out (I will). Is she right? Is this an alternative explanation for the data reflected in Academically Adrift?
