Scores Stagnate at High Schools – WSJ.com

This Wall Street Journal article confirms what many in the classroom are already aware of: high school students are largely unprepared for college work. The data is from the ACT, which is increasingly taken as a second test (in the northeast, after the SAT – ACT is the only requirement for some southern US schools) to shore up admission chances at four-year colleges. Predictably, WSJ quotes the Business Roundtable, who say that the US is in trouble “when” the economy rebounds. Increasingly, the high school level is where gains in scores are NOT being seen, while improvement is being seen at the K-6 level. Access the link below for interactive graphics.
