Facebook: Bad Bet for Student Data

In the well-written article below, the author makes clear why we need to take care in using Facebook for academic purposes (and I do not recommend it). The upshot is that applications that run on Facebook can access your personal data and hang on to it now. What’s insidious about this is that your data can be inadvertently made less private than you want because of  your friends’ settings.  Complex privacy settings in Facebook may give you the impression that you can “lock it down,” but increasingly now that is not the case.
