TARGET AUDIENCE: Employed and Unemployed RN’s and LPN’s as well as students graduating from nursing programs in the Spring of 2014.
Overall Goal: This course is designed to aid practicing nurses as well as nurses wishing to obtain a position in working with elderly in identifying the scope and complexity of gerontological nursing. The course is designed to be beneficial for LPN’s seeking National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Services, Inc. (NAPNES) certification in long term care.
Objectives: The learner will be able to:
1. Apply the role of the geriatric nurse including the associated concepts, skills, and techniques associated with TLC nursing.
2. Apply the theory related to nursing care provided to geriatric patient by providing a safe clean and comfortable environment for the long term care, chronically ill patient.
3. Analyze anatomy and physiology and therapeutic/modified diets for various body systems in the geriatric client.
4. Apply pharmacological interventions and commonly used medications for body systems.
