Berkshire County Forecast – Monday, Nov. 28

The following forecast is provided by Jim Mays, in conjunction with theĀ  instructor, as part of lab work for the Introduction to Meteorology course:

Summary:

The jet stream remains well to the north over Canada and we remain under the influence of warm, moist southwesterly flow from the clockwise circulation around a Bermuda High which is quite strong for this time of year. Therefore, temperatures will remain unseasonably warm, with near record high temperatures, for the next few days. A cut-off low over the southern Mississippi Valley will be picked up by a dip in the jet stream and move over the area with a bout of moderate to heavy rain Tuesday night. Temperatures will turn more seasonable after the storm passes on Wednesday.

Monday

Mostly cloudy and unseasonably warm.

High temperature in the low 60s.

Southwest winds at 5-10 mph.

Monday Night

Variable cloudiness and remaining mild.

Temperatures only falling to near 50 overnight.

Light southerly winds.

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy and unseasonably mild. There is a good chance that scattered showers will develop in the late afternoon. Probability of precipitation 50%. The showers will be mostly light with total rainfall generally under 0.10 inches.

High temperature near 60.

Light southeast winds increasing to 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night

A band of moderate to heavy rain will pass through the region overnight. The duration of rainfall will be approximately 4-6 hours and will likely occur sometime between 8 pm and 4 am. Probability of precipitation near 100%. Likely rainfall totals between 0.50 and 1.00 inches.

Temperatures holding steady in the 50s then falling into the upper 40s toward morning.

Southeasterly winds shifting to southwesterly toward morning at 8-15 mph.

Wednesday

Partly cloudy in the morning. Becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon with the slight chance of a shower. Probability of precipitation 20%.

Temperatures in the upper 40s in the morning, falling through the 40s in the afternoon.
