What is the “Internet of Things”?

mapBasically, if you can imagine putting a radio frequency-emitting barcode on an object, and then being able to track that object’s location anywhere in the world via GPS and display that on a website or mobile device, that is the potential of the “Internet of Things.” Here’s a very cool application of the tools: a live map of the London underground. You can click the red dots (use the link above, not the image in this post) and find out exactly where a train is and when it will arrive at your station. Imagine having this on your phone when you are visiting London! Interesting to see how this might be used in education – look for further posts on the “Internet of Things.”
