This study is worth a read – the results indicate that their sample of 171 students self-stated as having intermediate to high computer skills, were less proficient than they thought in basic Office applications. With Word, there was some difference in report versus tested proficiency, with Powerpoint, not much difference, and the biggest difference was with Excel. Here’s the full report:
