Educational Games

Biology Professor Frank Schickor presented at the CTL on “Educational Games,” on April 2nd. This presentation was a snippet of what he presented at the League for Innovation in the CC “Innovations” Conference in Reno last month. Frank demonstrated three games, all based on powerpoint templates that he has developed. One was a “squares” games where students would choose a category and create questions for the answers given in the square. The second was a “wheel” game, where students would choose a number and be presented with a random question to answer. The third game as a relational game, where students brainstorm seemingly unrelated terms, such as sun and Boston Red Sox, and then slowly build associations between the random terms. The workshop was very well received, and Prof Lois Cooper has already adapted Frank’s methodologies into her Spanish classes.
