Guardian Summer Internship/BCC Students

We are extending the application deadline to the end of this week, Friday, April 22.  This internship is for BCC students interested in business/finance.

 

We are opening the opportunity to non-MMFL students in order to fill these internship opportunities. Please have Berkshire Community College students submit a resume, cover letter, and academic letter of recommendation from an instructor (preferably, a personal finance instructor, if possible) by the end of the week.

Environmental Education Intern

Company Name: OARS
Location: Concord, MA

Environmental interns will assist in teaching hands-on, waterside workshops to children ages 6-10 years old. The Workshops will be offered in Westborough, Marlborough, Wayland/Sudbury, and Framingham.

Qualifications:

High school and/or college students interested in environmental education. Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated love for the outdoors and environment, teaching, and working with children. Interns will need to provide their own transportation to and from the OARS office and to the workshop locations. Training will be provided.

Employment Details:

These are part-time paid positions, 12 hr/week on average, for 8-10 weeks from late June through mid-August.

Environmental Assistants – Invasive Plant Mapping

Company Name: OARS
Location: Concord, MA

Two Environmental Assessment Assistants will work as a team to map the extent of the invasive water chestnut plant throughout the length of the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers. The assistants will be trained to use hand-held GPS MobileMappers and will work primarily from kayaks on the rivers. The data will be used to plan and assess the effectiveness of water chestnut removal efforts. The assistants will work with office staff to obtain permission from landowners for access to the river as needed. Read more about the program.

Qualifications:

Ability to work with the public in a professional manner; ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team; a valid driver’s license and vehicle that can transport a kayak; experience in canoeing or kayaking in bodies of water during inclement weather (strong wind, rain); and enthusiasm for outdoor work. Past experience in plant identification; knowledge of GPS and GIS; and an interest in botany, wildlife, ecology, or related fields are preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Employment Details:

These are part-time paid positions. Up to 150 hours from June 1- August 15. May include some weekend days.

Environmental Assistants – Invasive Plant Rapid Response Team

Two assistants will work as a team to remove emerging populations of invasive water chestnut throughout the length of the Assabet River. This is a key intervention to prevent the spread of this plant in the watershed. The assistants will be trained to locate, remove and dispose of the plants, and will work primarily on the water from a canoe.

Qualifications:

Ability to work with the public in a professional manner; ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team; a valid driver’s license; experience in canoeing or kayaking during inclement weather (strong wind, rain); and enthusiasm for outdoor work. Past experience in plant identification; map reading; and interest in botany, wildlife, ecology, or related fields, and vehicle that can transport a canoe are preferred. Must be able to lift a canoe overhead and be at least 18 years of age.

These are part-time paid positions. Up to 150 hours from June 20- August 5. May include some weekend days.

Department of Public Utilities Seasonal Laborer

The Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified individuals to fill Summer Maintenance positions. The primary functions of this position will be to maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and general safety of the grounds and facilities through regular, safe, thorough, and systematic maintenance duties following company policies and procedures.  This position is also responsible for any general maintenance of grounds and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of unskilled labor duties
  • Digging holes, trenches and other excavations; shoveling materials and leveling areas
  • Cleaning out sewers and catch basins
  • Cleaning litter & debris from streets, runways, and parking lots
  • Mowing grass using either hand or powered equipment; trimming shrubs & lower parts of trees along sidewalks & highways
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required qualifications and licensures:

  • Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license, Class D
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions, and communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors
  • Physical agility, strength and endurance sufficient to perform heavy manual labor under inclement weather conditions, in restricted or confined environments, and in elevated areas
  • Ability to handle and operate tools and equipment as required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Salary: $10.00 per hour
