About the Position:

Do you love helping people and seeing visitors leave with a smile on their face?  Do you enjoy knowing that when you greet a guest warmly, it sets the tone for the rest of their visit?  As Visitor Services and Museum Shop Assistant, it is your job to ensure that every aspect of the experience enchants our visitors. Reporting to the Engagement Site Manager, your responsibilities include:

• Welcoming and orienting visitors upon arrival while providing information about the property and the programs available each day
• Establishing positive visitor experiences and providing excellent customer service
• Assisting visitors and answering questions cheerfully throughout the day
• Acting as an ambassador for the site and The Trustees of Reservations while promoting membership
• Conducting pre-opening setup at the Welcome Center / Museum Shop to assure that everything is ready when the first visitor arrives
• Closing and securing the Museum Shop at the end of the day
• Providing ongoing merchandise inventory control
• Reconciling cash register and credit card machines
• Arranging and selling museum and garden merchandise
• Tracking all daily admissions at the site
• Advising the Engagement Site Manager of any problems, maintenance needs, or supply shortages as necessary
• Consulting with the Guest Services Coordinator in resolving problems and making decisions appropriate for the smooth running of the museum store
• Participating in regular trainings and team meetings that provide professional skill development, update staff on current developments at The Trustees of Reservations, and inform staff of both interpretive philosophy and interpretive techniques that improve visitor experiences on site
• Promoting the mission of The Trustees of Reservations and our work; encouraging guests to join us as members in preserving special places across the state of Massachusetts

The Visitor Services and Museum Shop Assistant should be cheerful, professional and knowledgeable in their work. Excellent customer service skills are required. They should possess the talent to answer questions patiently and the ability to make guests feel welcome and important.

About Bartholomew’s Cobble

Created by geologic upheavals when the Taconic and Berkshire ranges were formed, the hundred-foot-high bedrock outcropping at Bartholomew’s Cobble introduces visitors to a rugged and exotic landscape along the Housatonic River that also supports 800 species of plant and  a recently restored floodplain forest,  while offering terrific mountain vistas and has been designated a National Natural Landmark.

Summary of Position

The Seasonal Ranger is responsible to welcome visitors, promote membership, help plan, set up and staff public programs, and administrative tasks associated with programming and visitor services.  The ranger will also assist stewardship staff with basic upkeep of the Visitor’s Center.   The seasonal Ranger reports to the regional Engagement Manager and works along side stewardship staff who manage the reservation. This is part-time position requiring a commitment of 15 to 30 hours per week beginning in mid-May until early October.

Essential Functions:

• Staff an entrance station and greet visitors in a welcoming manner
• Answer questions about The Trustees and the history, geology and ecology of the properties
• Educate visitors about The Trustees mission and encourage them to become active members
• Direct visitors to membership brochures, distribute flyers  to the public and on bulletin boards
• Enforce rules and regulations of assigned properties
• Perform tasks safely and in accordance with The Trustees’ safety manual
• Behave in a professional manner with their colleagues, property visitors and volunteers
• Collect admission and/or program fees and sell memberships and permits
• Keep both financial and visitation records and submit weekly reports by email
• Maintain clean facilities and  parking lot and picnic areas
• Report safety concerns, incidents, and maintenance needs to the Management Unit Superintendent
• Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

• Ability  to work without supervision and as well as with other staff
• Ability to communicate with supervisors effectively, both verbally and through written report
• Keen eye for detail

• CPR & First Aid certification  (highly desirable)
• A current driver’s license and good driving record
• Sound computer skills (MS Office programs)
• Willingness to wear Trustees’ provided uniform at all times

The Park Ranger is a seasonal, part-time position at Monument Mountain and is primarily responsible for greeting and educating visitors, and providing site-related materials. The Park Ranger is also responsible for planning and leading occasional guided walks and programs and assisting with special events. Incumbent also performs general cleaning and/or maintenance of the ranger station, trails, and parking lots. This is a part-time position requiring a commitment of 15 to 30 hours per week beginning in mid-May until early October.
