Join Scott Kirchner, founder of Mad Macs, for an informal conversation about his experience launching and growing a successful start-up in the Berkshires.

In 1998, Apple Computers had been in decline for almost ten solid years. Refusing to believe that these wonderful machines had seen the last of their glory days, Scott Kirchner jumped on board and began to row what others considered a sinking ship.

In a parallel universe some 3,000 miles away in Cupertino, California at about the same time Mad Macs was founded, the iMac was born. This kickstarted Apple into a design revolution that birthed the iPod, iPhone, and the iPad and ultimately catapulted the company to become one of the largest and most lucrative businesses in the world.

1BERKSHIRE

Why entrepreneurial meetups?

1Berkshire is facilitating a series of meetups which gather local entrepreneurs together to engage and network, as well as allow 1Berkshire to share resources with this important community. The first meetup on February 27 was a success, with 15-20 current or potential entrepreneurs arriving at The Marketplace Cafe in Pittsfield for low-key shop talk with Paul LeBlanc, owner and founder of Zogics.

The term ‘meetup’ entered the popular lexicon in 2002, when the social networking website meetup.com was launched. Today, meetups are held across the globe and bring people of like-interests together. Although 1Berkshire’s Entrepreneurial Meetups are not powered by meetup.com, these events will be organized in a similar way: as opportunities for entrepreneurs in the region to drop into a coffee shop or gather together at a bar after work to have casual, organic conversations about issues and ideas related to their businesses.

1:00 – 4:00 pm
BCC’s Main Campus, Pittsfield

On Sunday, January 25, from 1:00 – 4:00, BCC’s financial aid staff will be joined by financial aid professionals from MCLA, Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Williams College to provide free assistance to local families applying for college financial aid for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This event known as FAFSA Day Massachusetts will take place at BCC’s Main Campus for the first time:
• Students/families new to the financial aid process will participate in a 1½ hour guided presentation in K-111.

Please help spread the word to students, family, friends and neighbors who could benefit from our expertise. Online workshop registration at www.FAFSADay.org is strongly recommended.

FAFSA Day Massachusetts mobilizes financial aid professionals from colleges across the Commonwealth to help families of college-bound students with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov, the application required of all students seeking grant or loan assistance, and with the CSS PROFILE, an application required by certain colleges in addition to the FAFSA.

Locally, this free workshop is sponsored by The Learning Connection Inc./Educational Opportunity Center in cooperation with financial aid professionals from Berkshire County’s four colleges.

FAFSA Day Massachusetts programs are administered annually by the Massachusetts Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), with funding for such programs across the nation provided by the Lumina Foundation for Education.
