The Department of Public Utilities, Water Division, is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Water Systems Maintenance Person. Under direction of the Working Foreman and Water Superintendent, the Water Systems Maintenance Person will be responsible for performing manual work in the construction, operation and overall maintenance of water systems.
40 hours/week Monday-Friday
Salary: $33,493 – $37,153
Responsibilities:
- Performs semi-skilled manual work in the construction, operation and maintenance of water systems, including but not limited to: work on reservoirs, water gates, mains & connectors; cuts, lays and caulks water pipes using machine or hand tools to force sealing
compound into joints to make them watertight. - Performs masonry duties in the construction and repair of system brickwork structures
- Pumps water from trenches, digs braces and backfills excavations for the purpose of locating pipe leaks or preparing areas for laying pipes. Replaces broken or leaking pipes and performs pipe maintenance
- Other duties may include: reading water meters & checking them over; replaces worn and broken parts in the water systems; may work with private contractors to help them avoid hitting water mains and boxes during construction and excavation; may assist in the construction or repair of sewer system pipelines and structures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of acceptable experience as a pipe-layer, or equivilent
- Two (2) years experience operating heavy equipment
- Ability to use blueprints
- Valid Massachusetts drivers liscence
- Valid Class 2A Hoisting License
