BCC Mobile Initiative — Invitation
This Spring, the Center for Teaching and Learning is launching the BCC Mobile Initiative. This Initiative is based on extensive research, discussions, and consultation with faculty.
Part I: IPAD Workshops
Up to 30 BCC Faculty are invited to attend a series of three workshops, facilitated by Nicole Mooney and Dori Digenti, to learn about and develop skills with the iPad platform. Faculty will commit to attending the three workshops, completing short exercises and assessments with the iPads, and upon completion – will receive the iPad to use in course development. Full workshop descriptions and schedule are below. These workshops will be highly interactive and targeted to meet faculty needs and fulfill grant requirements.
- Note 1: Faculty who already own iPads can bring their own device (BYOD), and receive a $400 stipend for completing the three workshops
- Note 2: If the initiative is oversubscribed, participants will be balanced among divisions. 24 slots will be reserved up to the registration deadline for full-time faculty.
- Note 3: If a faculty member is set on using the Android platform, this can be accommodated as BYOD. Apps and resources have been chosen to match both platforms.
Part II: Tablet-Based Class Pilot
For the few and the daring…. up to four faculty can receive training support and a stipend for offering a tablet-based course in Fall 2013. “Tablet-based course” means that students will be directed to either buy or bring a tablet to your on-campus course in place of a textbook. BCC will not supply the tablets; the students will need to purchase them.
This program is funded by the US Department of Labor MCCWDTA grant and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Vision Program.
