The goal of the Liberal Arts Program at Berkshire Community College (BCC) is to develop students’ foundational knowledge and skills through a wide variety of academic disciplines, preparing them for a successful transfer to a four-year institution, lucrative opportunities in the workforce, and informed engagement in their communities. Through the study of subjects like history, science, languages, mathematics, and the arts, this program fosters independently motivated, complex thinkers who are able to affect positive change in the overlapping contexts of community, politics, family life, the workplace, and society.

In 2021, BCC added two new courses to our Liberal Arts program. These new courses, LAR-101: Introduction to Liberal Arts and LAR-285: Liberal Arts Capstone, are designed as bookends to the liberal arts experience and establish a contextualizing framework for student learning. These courses were developed by an interdisciplinary group of faculty, working together to integrate critical and creative thinking, metacognition, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, and other essential skills into the learning in both courses.

This site is dedicated to sharing these collaborative and independently created resources with faculty teaching in the liberal arts at BCC and beyond. From the Resources and Materials page you can review available content by category, or by attribute. Each resource is licensed by the contributing faculty. For more information about using these materials, or to ask questions about specific resources, contact Nell McCabe, Liberal Arts Program Advisor at Berkshire Community College.
