Teamwork is Currency at Crane
As an R&D Technician with Crane Currency in Dalton, MA, you will play a critical role within an exciting, fast-growing organization known for innovative currency and banknote technologies. The successful candidate will have the ability to “jump in” and contribute immediately to ongoing efforts of this team. We’re looking a proactive person who seeks opportunities to assist scientists and engineers in product and process development projects. The individual will accomplish this by providing high-quality data through hands-on execution of laboratory procedures with a continual focus on minimizing variability. Scope of work will include laboratory-scale banknote paper-making; testing and analysis of raw materials, paper, and banknotes as well as development of new methods required to move technology forward in a safety conscious environment. Being internally motivated, results-oriented, and having strong leadership capabilities are integral qualities in this role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and technicians to provide accurate, reproducible data in the most efficient manner possible.
- Prepare and test materials according to existing methods (chemical, physical, and optical).
- Collate test samples, data and record results. Document results reporting with basic statistics including tables, graphs, photos and written reports.
- Maintain calibration, operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment according to procedures and manufacturers’ requirements.
- Continually analyze methods for opportunities to decrease variability and/or increase efficiency and then lead efforts in these areas within the team.
- Pro-actively follow safety practices and participate actively in our ongoing safety improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school degree or equivalent with 8 or more years of experience in analytical and physical testing. Associates degree in a quantitative laboratory science with 4-5 years laboratory experience or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chem. Eng., polymers or related area with minimum 0-3 years laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience in influential leadership without direct supervisory responsibility such as leading efforts in safety and/or laboratory organizational activities.
- Able to work in a collaborative and creative environment as an active team member while learning from others’ ideas and experiences.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.
- Experience in devising, testing, establishing, and implementing new procedures.
- Ability to perform at a high level within a flexible, fast-changing environment.
- Strong desire to continuously reduce variability in personal execution of methods while also seeking ways to improve current procedures along with the ability to document them.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn other software applications as needed.
- Efficiently plan work load to accomplish additional tasks during “wait” periods of ongoing work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
