Program Director / Lead Teacher

BASIC FUNCTION: The Program Director/Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive, high quality early childhood program for preschoolers, licensed by the EEC; conforms to EEC policies and NAEYC standards for child care programs. Supervises all program staff.; oversees licensing and maintains NAEYC accreditation. The Program Director conducts an annual evaluation of services and makes quality improvement recommendations.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and coordinates early childhood services in order to support families who have working or training service needs. Facilitates enrollment into the program by conducting intakes and re-assessments. Hires and supervises staff to ensure that all NAEYC as well as licensing standards are met in the classroom. Includes responsibility for half-time teaching in the classroom, as a model and a mentor. Represents the center at community functions and advocates for high quality child care in the community, including with the public schools. Assists in the preparation of the budget, and monitors the income and spending, according to the established budget.   Documents as required by CCB policies and procedures, and maintains personnel and parent files in complete and confidential manner. Maintains relationships with community resources. Maintains contact with EEC agency. Collects evaluation data from the parents as needed. Continues professional development through seminars, conferences, etc. and State sponsored training.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Program Director/Lead Teacher of South Berkshire Center must meet minimal EEC qualifications for Director 1. Prefer a B.A. or A.A. degree in early childhood education, human services, sociology, psychology or related field, and 2 years of early childhood experience. Knowledge of early education, curriculum planning and developmentally practices is required. Knowledge of community resources is helpful. Demonstrated organizational, supervisory, communication and writing skills are essential. Computer knowledge and familiarity with internet and web-technology is required.

SALARY/WORK YEAR: This year-round position is exempt, with an annual salary range of $28,000 – $33,250 with full benefits (80% paid medical insurance, dental options, pension, sick and vacation time, etc.). Occasional evening work required.
