Airport Manager

The City of Pittsfield is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Airport Manager, who will be responsible for all operations of the Pittsfield Municipal Airport. The Airport Manager will be responsible for all financial matters, contracts, personnel administration, correspondence, public relations, maintenance and construction, safety, grounds, and regulatory compliance and enforcement.

Salary range: $58,204 – $65,852 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Act as agent of the Airport Commission and be the Chief Operating Officer of the airport
  • Assume responsibility for optimum operational management of all functions of a municipal airport
  • Carry out all matters of policy established by the Commission and make all administrative decisions thereto
  • Develop all new leases and re-negotiate all old leases for approval of the Commission; Update all leases annually to reflect rent increases tied to the CPI or other indexes and notify all parties of such increases
  • Annually review, or more frequently if necessary, all insurance coverage, permits and licenses granted by and/or held by the Commission and take appropriate renewal, enforcement or notification action
  • Prepare all grant requests for federal, state and local approval and funding, and develop all long and short range plans for airport improvement
  • Develop the annual operating and capital budgets for submission to the Commission
  • Conduct an annual revenue analysis paying particular attention to potential sources of new revenue and adjustments to existing structures of revenue. Prepare an overall development plan for the airport with three, five, and ten-year benchmarks
  • Responsible for snow removal operations and condition reporting via NOTAMS
  • Be available twenty-four hours a day by cell phone for emergency situations, or arrange appropriate coverage with the permission of the commission
  • Perform all other duties, functions and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Airport Commission

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, transportation planning, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in airport operations/administration at a public-owned airport
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable FARs, advisory circulars, and Massachusetts laws and regulations related to airport operation, design, construction/alteration and development
  • Valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Airport Manager’s License
  • Accredited Airport Executive credentials a plus
  • May consider relative airport training, experience, and/or education, as it deems necessary, in lieu of preferred requirements
