IS183 Art School of the Berkshires is now accepting applications for intern positions for its Summer Young Artist Program!

June 27th –August 12th

Weekdays, 8:30 a. m. to 4:30 p.m.

Two to eight week internships are available for students ages 17 and above.

Intern-in-Training (IIT) Open to ages 14-15

Interns in Training commit to a minimum of two weeks working with IS183’s youngest campers; assisting teachers and campers in projects, supervising camps, and helping with set up, clean up, and art show installation.

Teaching Assistant Intern (TA) Open to ages 16+

Teaching Assistant Interns will assist students and teachers in IS183’s summer camp classrooms, set up student art shows, and gain office experience weekly. TAs will be expected to supervise students in specific age groups ranging from 3-14 years and interact with parents, staff, faculty, and fellow interns, so strong interpersonal skills are a must. TAs will receive a $100 weekly stipend, job skills training, and have the opportunity to audit one evening or weekend adult class. Babysitter training course completion and/or first aid/CPR training preferred. A valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation that can be used for work is required.

Administrative Internship Open to ages 16+

An opportunity available year-round to students interested in learning the ins and outs of a non-profit organization office. Flexible hours.

Administrative Coordinator

Part time position for Administrative Coordinator for the Becket Arts Center, located in the beautiful wooded rural landscaped area of the Berkshires. BAC is a small non-profit Arts Center whose mission is to offer diverse arts and cultural experiences that inspire, entertain, educate and enrich our community. Our historic building in North Becket, is the setting for our exhibitions, cultural programming, workshops, Children’s Art Camp, and community events.

Hours:

  • January through April, a total of 160 hours, with specific hours to be designated by mutual agreement between President and Administrative Coordinator (AC)
  • May through September up to 30 hours/week, including those hours when the BAC is open Thursday through Sunday 12 Noon – 4 p.m. and Tuesday evenings during July and August, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., with precise number of hours to be designated by mutual agreement between President and AC.
  • October through December, a total of 80 hours, with specific hours to be designated by mutual agreement between President and AC.

 

Compensation:  $15-20/hour

Necessary Skills: The ideal candidate for this position will work well with people, be flexible, be a self-starter, be eager to take initiative, have experience updating websites using wordpress, and have facility with MS WORD, MS EXEL and Donor Perfect Software.

Responsibilities:

Work with and report to the President of the Board

Board Support

  • Attend Board meetings
  • Report (as appropriate) at Board meetings about programming, building, membership, and other matters as appropriate
  • Work with Board Committees to coordinate calendars and meetings

 

Office Management

  • Retrieve and respond to phone messages, E-mails; update phone-answering message during open season (May – Sept.)
  • Oversee workshop instructors with respect to hours, contract signing, and building maintenance
  • Assist with organization and supervision of volunteers
  • Arrange for purchase of office, kitchen, cleaning supplies
  • Determine facilities needs and coordinate with Facilities Chair and contractors (as needed)
  • Coordinate the maintenance and cleaning of facilities including galleries, gift shop, bathrooms
  • Maintain visitors’ log
  • Set alarm on/off daily

 

Programming

  • Assist Exhibition Chairperson/Committee with planning, organizing, implementing (including hanging), and evaluating exhibitions
  • Assist the Exhibition Committee and the BWS art teacher with the coordination and installation of Becket Washington School Exhibit
  • Assist Lecture Series Chairperson/Committee with planning, organizing, implementing (including setting up chairs, tables, and refreshments), and evaluating of lectures.
  • Assist Programming Chairperson/Committee with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating other programs.
  • Assist with Young People’s program coordinator with coordinating registration, distribution and collection of evaluation questionnaires, as well as maintaining records and assisting the art teachers as needed.  Be available at the
  • Assist the Coordinator of Families Dance Together at the Pillow as needed with registration, publicity, etc.
  • Assist with BAC community related events
  • Assist Gift Shop Coordinator in organizing volunteers, assisting as needed as salesperson in Gift Shop, processing gallery sales, and maintaining daily bookkeeping
  • Host at openings and encourage visitors to sign guest book
  • Type exhibition labels (as needed) and develop a Price and/or Program List

 

Membership and Fundraising

  • Assist Membership and Fundraising Committees with planning, implementing, and evaluating all membership and fundraising activities
  • Maintain computerized database of members, including their contact information and contributions
  • Execute email blasts

 

Marketing

  • Serve as a spokesperson, as needed, for BAC at BAC sponsored events, town events, public appearances
  • Oversee commercial marketing (paid ads/exchange ads)
  • Keep updated on online arts venues, area events pertinent to BAC
  • Create Calendar of Events and disseminate Member Newsletters
  • Maintain / update website as needed
  • Disseminate marketing materials as needed

 

Financial

  • Assist the Treasurer and Finance Committee as mutually agreed.
