Supervisor, Fire Protection

The MIT Department of Facilities’ Repair and Maintenance Group is seeking a Supervisor, Fire Protection. This position will provide leadership and supervision to the Department of Facilities Fire Protection Team. Will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and testing of the fire protection and life safety systems across campus; plan and schedule the preventive maintenance and daily work assignments of team members; maintain appropriate documentation to satisfy regulatory and insurance requirements; provide QA/QC to ensure the highest quality of work; coordinate and provide training for changes and additions to NFPA codes, state codes, and local codes; coordinate and support fire protection shutdowns; participate in the design review process for new projects and assist in the commissioning of all new installations; and act as liaison with Cambridge Fire Department and assist with campus emergency responses as needed.

Requirements: an associate’s degree in fire science; a minimum of five years’ experience installing and maintaining fire protection and life safety systems; a minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory role; excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills; strong computer skills and experience working with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications; and a valid driver’s license. A Massachusetts’ electrical license is preferred.

Must be available to respond to off-hour campus emergencies and to work any shift as necessary in order to meet operational needs.
