Maintenance Staff

Mass MoCa is seeking applicants for a Maintenance Staff position at the museum. Maintenance staff responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting in preparation for special museum functions by setting up facilities such as tents, stages, concessions, barbeque pits, or special equipment
  • Assisting in repair and construction of cabinets, counters, shelving, and furniture
  • Wall construction including framing, drywall, taping, finishing, and painting
  • Unclogging drains and repairing faucets, sinks, and toilets
  • All aspects of lawn and grounds care
  • All aspects of snow and ice removal including shoveling, sanding, and operating snow blowes and snowplows
  • Performing preventative maintenance, such as lubricating and greasing motors, pumps, and bearings, adjusting and replacing belts, and tightening and lubricating chains
  • Installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing equipment, refrigeration and heating units; calibrating equipment to manufacturers’ specifications
  • Soldering and/or welding various materials

Ideal applicants must have knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in performance of maintenance work, including skills in using power tools and maintenance machinery. Applicants must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, and be able to read and interpret documents such as plans, blueprints, specifications, and drawing. Applicants must be able to establish and maintain harmonious working erlationships with supervosirs, co-workers, staff members, and others at the museum.

Maintenance staff must be able to work indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions ; must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds or greater; are required to climb ladders and scaffolds; must be OSHA 10 trained or have equivalent demonstratable safetly knowledge; and may need to work varied shifts or irregular hours. Ability to work on weekends,holidays is a must. Maintenance staff may be required to operate motor vehicles based on the assignment.

Graphic Designer

Mass MoCa seeks a full-time Graphic Designer who will be responsible for a wide array of projects spanning  every department of the museum  including Marketing, Visual and Performing Arts, Development, Educations, Visitor Services, Operations, and Retail. Projects include, but are not limited to, seasonal program brochures, postcards, posters, exhibition design collateral, catalogues, analog and digital advertisements, vinyl signage (production and applications), store products, festival and concert collateral, site way-finding, and more.

The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver with excellent design skills, a positive attitudes, and the ability to prioritize.

Requirements:

  • BA or BFA in graphic design
  • 3+ years of professional design experience, preferably in a cultural institution
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Mac OSX, and MS Word
  • Excellent time management and organizations skills, as well as the ability to work quickly under tight deadlines
  • An eye for detail and brand consistency, and a solid understanding of typography
  • Knowledge of pre-press techniques and file preparation, and experience with vendor management

Buildings and Grounds Manager

MASS MoCa seals applicants for buildings and Grounds Manager. This position reports to the Deputy Director and will plan, organize and direct the operations, maintenance, and repair of buildings and building systems on the MASS MoCa campus and satellite properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Directing and coordinating the Buildings and Grounds, Custodial, and Security Departments.
  • Managing, supervising, and motivating staff
  • Managing the operation, maintenance, and replacement of building systems
  • Managing facilities to save energy and preserve buildings
  • Ensuring the MASS MoCa saferty program and goals are carried out in compliance with all requirements
  • Maintaining a fiscally responsible Buildings and Grounds budget
  • Materials purchasing and inventory control
  • Reviewing, directing, and authorizing contractural work
  • Coordinating staff work with museum exhibitions and performing arts productions
  • Maintaining commercial tenant spaces and supervising custodial services

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Public Administration, Facilities Managments, or and related field, and at least three (3) years experience in supervising or managing a full-service facilities operations program; or at least five (5) years experience in facilities management in a complex with comparable scale and complexity
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of facilities management and maintenance
  • Good understanding of laws and regulations governing building codes
  • Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License is preferred
  • Ability to use basic computer office applications
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and sketches
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, advisory board personnel, government officials, and the public

Seasonal assistant Manager

MASS MoCA’s retail store is seeking a Seasonal Assistant Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Opening and closing stores, operating cash registers, and cheerfully interacting with customers
  • Handling,counting cash and making regular bank deposits
  • Monitoring and maintaining an accurate inventor, including receiving new items
  • Receiving, packing and shipping online and phone orders
  • Scheduling staff for two brick and mortor locations
  • Training all new sales associates
  • The position will requires 40 hours per week, sometimes more, and requires a flexible schedule, including availability on weekends, some evenings and occasional holidays. It also requires a friendly, polite disposition in addition to self-motivation and initiative. Customer service experience is preferred. This is a seasonal position through Labor Day 2015, with the potential to continue long-term, tbd.

Trimmer Operator

Crane is hiring! We’re looking for a Trimmer Operator to join our Stationery Division based in North Adams, MA. We look for bright, hard-working people who want to be a part of a world-class organization. This is a second shift position (2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.).

Responsibilities:
• Make the stock press ready from the parent sheet by interpreting information from cutting slips
• When needed, change the cutting blades and perform preventative maintenance
• Perform the required safety inspections
• Trim jobs accurately with minimal waste
• Use the Quik Scan to record all size and squareness audits
• Operate the folder (Social)
• Perform finish cutting on selected items
• Meet production expectations for grade designations
• Interact with other employees in a positive manner
• It is the employee’s responsibility to adhere to company safety policies and to ensure that the proper safety equipment will be used. Good judgment and care must be exercised to prevent any accidents and personal injuries
• Using positive locking device whenever performing machine maintenance and/or adjustments
• Use goggles when dispensing chemicals used in daily operation and maintenance
Qualifications:
• Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
• Mechanical experience
• Experience in operating and adjusting machinery
• Must exhibit a positive attitude and initiative
• Communicate clearly when interacting with customers, peers, subordinates, and supervisors
• Physically capable of performing the manual labor requirements associated with the job: prolonged periods of standing;handling stock items; and close visual inspection
• Must be willing and able to work at any Company location as needed
• Must be willing and able to work any shift arrangement and overtime as needed
• Must have maintained a good safety and attendance record with proven work performance in the past
The starting rate for this position is $12.28/hr. plus shift differential.
