Career Cafe

Jade Roy stands next to her work, mixed media on paper, created for the Career Cafe.

On May 9, 2013, from 4-7 p.m., the work of visual arts students from Berkshire Community College were the focus of a year-end celebration in the Koussevitsky Arts Center.  A part of that celebration also took place in the Susan B. Anthony building, where visitors saw the work that seven students created for the BCC Career Center’s Career Cafe.

The seven pieces depict people engaged in various types of work, including serving food, making music, and framing up a wall.  Their professor and director of the department, Lisa Griffith, gave the assignment, and they set to work investigating various periods, styles and approaches, including art deco and early labor movement posters.  Then they created their own.  The results are visually strong and direct depictions of people at work. The students have donated their work to the Career Center.

The Career Café is a new program of the Career Center, where workshops and other small group work-related discussions take place.  For more information, call 413-236-1611, or 236-1605.
