Assistant Professor/Program Coordinator – Practical Nursing
Position Overview: Responsible for the organization, implementation, review, continued development, and general effectiveness of the Practical Nurse Certificate Program to assure attainment of standards set by Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) for program approval. Provide strong leadership in recruitment of students; recruit and orient new full-time and adjunct faculty; review and revise program curriculum to meet college and professional standards and requirements; develop and prepare all reports required by accrediting, governing, and community agencies; order all program supplies; prepare program’s budget requests and administer within the prescribed limits established by the College; collaborate with College’s Director of Associate Degree of Nursing (A.D.N.) program to ensure a strong, supportive Practical Nurse/A.D.N. Advisory Committee and participate in Advisory Committee meetings on a regular basis; establish liaison and cooperation with external agencies in order to promote workforce development; establish and maintain liaison with professional associations in order to promote continued support for the program, its mission and graduates; ensure appropriate and adequate clinical assignments as mandated by Massachusetts BORN; and maintain required student records. Teach the equivalent of three assigned courses per semester within the program and advise assigned students. Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues as well as to enhance classroom learning as appropriate; integrate simulation technology into the practical nursing curriculum. Serve on college committees as elected or appointed; chair Practical Nurse Program department meetings; maintain competence through academic and professional credentials, continuing education, and professional growth and development. Cooperate and facilitate cooperation with other program areas/or departments, learning resources, student services and administrative services within the College. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) licensure; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN); minimum of five years full-time (or equivalent part-time) nursing experience within the last eight years; at least three years of experience in nursing education; knowledge of nursing regulation policies and guidelines; knowledge of nursing governance and regulatory agencies; excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated evidence of cooperation and collaboration with staff, administrators and colleagues; curriculum development skills; interest and experience with technology common in nursing practice and education; and knowledge of computer applications commonly used in nursing, academic, and administrative fields.
Preferred Qualifications: Administrative/management and community college teaching experience. Department chair leadership experience; member of nursing-related professional association
*Full-time is defined as 2 semesters of instruction: September to mid-December & mid-January to mid-May.
Practical Nursing program requires additional hours of instruction with additional compensation (approx. $11,158 – $12,548 as per the provisions of the MCCC contract) beyond the estimated range stated above.
