Program Director – Pittsfield Community Connections

The Program Director will manage all aspects of the Shannon Grant Initiative and the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative in conjunction with the requirements set forth in the agreement between the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the Pittsfield Police Department. The mission of Pittsfield Community Connections is intended to support regional and multi-disciplinary approaches to combat gang violence through coordinated programs for prevention, intervention, suppression, prosecution and reintegration.

Salary: $75,000 annually

Candidates should possess strong interest in Pittsfield community relations, excellent skills in public speaking, and possess the ability to work a flexible, variable schedule that will include some evening and weekend work, as well as attending community held events.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains considerable knowledge of the goals and objectives of both the Shannon Grant legislation administered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative administered by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services as they pertain to rules and regulations to be followed for complete compliance with reporting, administration and budget requirements. They shall also have a familiarity of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
  • Oversees all of the administrative duties regarding the Shannon Grant and the SSYI grant, including but not limited to all of the grant reporting and paperwork such as keeping records of funds spent, tracking remaining balances, processing in a timely manner quarterly and annual financial reports for submission to EOPSS and EOHSS.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration between the Pittsfield Police Department, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department, the Mayor’s Office, and all other potential relevant partners.
  • Collaborates with the Pittsfield School Department, school resource officers, criminal justice personnel and social services to develop a process for identifying at risk and youth and connecting them with the proper programs.
  • Promotes clear lines of communication and direction among community based agencies to ensure necessary interface for maximum service delivery and developing hands on working relationship with grant partners.
  • Coordinates and chairs monthly meetings of the Steering Committees and partners, serves as an intermediary between agencies resolves differences of opinion during meeting and facilities conflict resolution and consensus building as needed.
  • Works with research partners to understand and develop data for the purpose of assessing the program’s effectiveness as implemented and the City’s anti-gang violence response.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and city officials to develop and participate in immediate community response to gang related incidents.
  • Facilitates and coordinates events related to the Community Connections programs and identifying at risk youth.
  • Prepares the annual continuation grant proposal in compliance with all grant funding Agency’s guidelines.
  • Participates in all technical assistance and statewide Community Safety Initiative (CSI) meetings held by EOPSS, EOHSS and any other grant required meetings.
  • Ability to investigate and apply for other grant opportunities that are relevant to the work of Pittsfield Community Connections, monitor and administer other additional grants from other community funders.
  • Supervises and mentors staff consisting of but not limited to Outreach Workers and Co-Directors.
  • Performs other duties as required for the program, as directed by Fenn Street Community Development, the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services or other grant funders.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in relevant field
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ related experience, preferably working with local community agencies and/or employers in a human services capacity; experience working with at-risk youth strongly preferred.
  • Ability to write and manage grant applications.
  • Ability to track data, analyze underlying principles of said data and draw conclusions.
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to present publicly in front of large audiences, media sources, etc.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license
  • Ability to work a flexible, variable schedule that will include some evening and weekend work, as well as attending community held events.
