JOB POSTING: PART-TIME LIBRARY SHELVER
ADULT CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Intermittent hours working in the Adult Circulation and Reference Departments shelving books.
DUTIES: Library Shelvers are responsible for the shelving of all materials, and other associated tasks such as keeping shelves neat, keeping books in proper order, basic book maintenance chores like replacing damaged covers, assisting at the public service desk under direct supervision, and basic clerical duties assigned by the department supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS: Some high school and the physical health and ability to perform the tasks associated with the job are required. Highly desirable qualities include a friendly, outgoing personality, good communication skills, good clerical skills, energy, precision, and the ability to accept direction. The ability to lift light loads (c. 20 pounds) from the floor to a position overhead, to maneuver a loaded book cart, and to read printed material are necessary for this position.
HOURS AVAILABLE: These intermittent hours may fluctuate from zero to nineteen hours per week, with a projected schedule that may routinely include weekday, evening and Saturday assignments. A preliminary schedule has been estimated at eight hours per week (two 4-hour shifts), with opportunities to work additional hours as a substitute shelver in the Reference Department, Children’s Library, or Technical Services Department.
SALARY: As a Library Shelver (Grade 2), the range of salary for this position will be $8.24 to $10.16 per hour in seven steps.
