Position Summary:
This position coordinates and controls one or more accounting activity within an accounting function such as: General Ledger/Subsidiaries Accounting, Cost/Budget/Fixed Asset Accounting, Systems/Chart of Accounts Master Data, Consolidations/Audit/Tax/Intercompany, or Payroll. The Senior Accountant assists the Assistant Controller or Controller in providing accounting management oversight and analysis, and maintaining internal controls in the accounting functional area. This position participates as a team member on departmental projects.

- Establishes internal controls within a functional area in order to capture and report required information to appropriate parties. Responsible for one or more activity within the following functional areas:
- General Ledger/Subsidiaries Accounting: Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, maintaining general ledger and preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Cost/Budget/Fixed Assets: Accumulates budget figures and input into the system. Monitors budget throughout year and performs variance analysis for manufacturing operations. Develops and recommends cost standards with support from Sr. Accounting Analyst.
- Systems/Chart of Accounts Master Data: Provides technical expertise in automating current accounting procedures and implementing/deploying new software systems. Maintains chart of accounts master data in JDE and other systems setup.
- Consolidations/Audit/Tax/Intercompany: Provides assistance to the Assistant Controller in the preparation of consolidated financial reporting including preparation of financial statements, preparation of quarterly bank covenants and preparation of data necessary for the year end audit and tax returns. Review and reconciliation of intercompany/divisional transactions.
- Payroll: Preparation and validation of weekly and monthly payroll utilizing ADP payroll software. Prepare necessary journal entries and analysis related to the weekly and monthly payroll. Assists with requests of payroll data from third parties.
- Diagnoses, analyzes and resolves questions, issues and discrepancies within an area of expertise.
- Performs advanced or specialized work requiring seasoning and comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and US GAAP.
- Works on accounting projects as assigned.
- Other duties as requested by the Assistant Controller or Controller.
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with integrated, automated accounting systems such as JD Edwards, 7.3 and 9.2 (ERP/SAP).
- Must be able to handle the demands of month end close while continuing to work with diverse groups to assist in the implementation of systems and business processes.
- Must be able to prioritize projects and work load to meet expected deadlines.
- Must develop communication with multiple groups to insure that information is meeting the needs of the user and updates or changes are addressed timely.
- Must coordinate efforts with all the divisions within Crane.
- Must have an in depth knowledge of the system along with a good understanding of the financial impact that each implementation and change creates especially around the chart of accounts and other systems setup.
- Must have a thorough understanding of US GAAP especially foreign currency.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Treasury department.
