A representative will be on site at Berkshire Medical Center April 14th through April 18th. She will interview during that time.
Position
Release of Information Specialist – Part Time – approximately 20 hours per week
Verisma Systems – Pittsfield, Massachusetts
Summary of Position
The Offsite Release of Information Specialist (“Specialist”):
• Will be responsible for one Verisma® customer for whom medical Release of Information (“ROI”) activities are conducted and will report to work at that customer’s facility or facilities
• Will be responsible for processing those medical ROI requests in a timely and efficient manner
• Will use customer-supplied and/or Verisma equipment and Verisma’s Record Jacket® Release Manager and Record Jacket.com™ for all medical release of information requests
• Will adhere to the work schedule developed by the Offsite Release of Information Supervisor or Lead responsible for the specific customer facility or facilities
• Is responsible for attending and understanding all initial and ongoing training provided by Verisma
• Is responsible for supporting the resolution of HIPAA-related release issues in a timely manner
• Will work with the Verisma’s Customer Service Group and Supervisor to resolve HIPAA-related release issues to the satisfaction of the customer, patient and requestor
• Will maintain and update reference material relevant to the release of Protected Health Information and HIPAA and as provided by Verisma and the Supervisor and/or Lead
• Will coordinate all customer-site-specific technical issues with Supervisor and/or Lead
• Will coordinate all customer-site-specific HIPAA release decision issues with Supervisor and/or Lead
Essential Job Requirements
The Specialist:
• Will use a laptop or desktop computer, scanner, Record Jacket Release Manager software, Microsoft® Office, the Internet and other software systems and products
• Will review and scan requests for medical records, authorizations and medical records into the Record Jacket Release Manager
• Will carefully monitor and complete the process to make certain that each ROI transaction is successfully entered
• Will work closely with other Specialist at this customer facility or facilities as well as Verisma’s distribution center and customer service associates to provide excellent customer service and contribute to a completely HIPAA-compliant release of information process
• Will closely follow all Verisma and customer-specific rules and regulations
• Will travel between customer facilities as required
Required Education
The Specialist must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additional education is helpful but not required.
Required Experience
The Specialist must have a minimum of two years’ experience with clerical and general office work, equipment and procedures. Experience in the health care environment or with health care terminology preferred. Medical records background is extremely helpful. RHIA and/or RHIT designation is helpful.
Required Skills
Analytical
• The Specialist must be able to read and understand medical records, forms, authorizations, etc., that are relevant to the ROI process.
Organizational
• The Specialist must be able to organize records and documents required for the ROI process. The Specialist must adhere to a schedule developed by the OLROIS that is consistent with customer expectations and requirements.
Interpersonal
• The Specialist must be able to interact with customer and company personnel in a very professional and friendly manner.
Technical
• The Specialist must be able to operate a laptop computer, desktop computer, portable scanner and other common office equipment. The Specialist must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, be able to access and navigate the Internet and able to become proficient in the use of the Record Jacket Release Manager and RecordJacket.com.
Physical Requirements
The Specialist must be able to lift and manipulate medical record files as well as operate various computer, scanning and general office equipment.
Mental Requirements
The Specialist must be able to work independently and in different environments. The Specialist must be detail oriented and have an understanding of HIPAA and state regulations relevant to the release of Protected Health Information.
Equipment Used
The Specialist will use a desktop and/or laptop computer, portable scanner, Microsoft Office applications and RecordJacket.com as well as other common office equipment and a variety of software products.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Specialist will have no supervisory responsibilities. The Specialist will be expected to be an important part of a team of trained Specialist in providing exemplary customer service.
Working Conditions
The Specialist will work away from the Verisma home office in Pueblo, Colorado. The Specialist will work at a specific customer facility or facilities.
Other Requirements
The Specialist will be required to sign Verisma’s “At-Will, Employment, Confidential Information, Invention Assignment, Noncompetition and Arbitration Agreement.”
