Signal Maintainer

Salary:  $42,817 – $44,992 per year
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, maintains, modifies, adjusts and repairs traffic signal systems and circuits, streetlight systems, public parking meters, fire alarm signals, police signal systems or other emergency signal systems or control systems.
  • Repairs traffic, fire, and police signal systems consisting of boxes, registers, switches, relays, lights, switchboards, bells, sirens, circuits and cables
  • Maintains storage batteries, performs scheduled tests and troubleshooting of circuits
  • Installs and repairs electrical and signal wiring, including underground or aerial wiring of traffic, fire, and police signal systems.
  • Installs, maintains, modifies, adjusts and repairs building and equipment electrical systems, circuitry, and other electrical system or equipment components.
  • Supervises contractors while performing the above work.
  • Incidentally may supervise workers at a lower level
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician’s License
  • Certified or certifiable in Traffic Signal Inspector— Initial, Traffic Signal I, Traffic Signal II (Field Tech), Work Zone, and Fire Alarm Municipal Level I with the IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association).
  • Two year’s full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in electrical work in which the installation, repair, maintenance or construction of electrical systems for the purpose of light, heat or power was the major duty. Substitution: graduation from a recognized trade or vocational school of the high school level with a major in electrical practices may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Ability to install, repair, modify, adjust, and maintain a municipal traffic control signal system, streetlights, and public parking meters.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity, particularly low voltage signal systems; thorough understanding of public police and fire service communications.
  • Ability and agility to climb ladders and enter manholes, access ways and underground vaults; walk long distances over uneven terrain; lift fifty (50) pounds from the ground level to chest height in standing position; and work outdoors in all seasons.
  • Skilled in the use of tools; Demonstrated ability to read and use drawings and maps.
