Explanation of Math in Dressage (Math Application Project)

As part of the math survey course that I took during the height of the pandemic, we had to come up with a project that used math in everyday life.  Outside of school, I’m a horseback rider and my favorite sub-sport within horseback riding is Dressage.  Basically, dressage is made up of combinations of simple and complex movements which looks to the viewer a lot like ballet; except on a horse.  The sport actually encompasses a lot of math – especially geometry and counting.  Due to the fact that I focused my math application project on a sport that I love, it didn’t feel like learning math.  To learn more about how math corresponds to the equestrian sport of dressage and learn more about the sport itself, please see the link to my Math Application Project-Math in Dressage.

Learning about how math applies in the sport of dressage has been extremely helpful as I am in the beginning stages of learning the sport myself!  To see dressage in action, please refer to this video (also embedded in my PowerPoint presentation). Please start viewing at 0:50 and stop at 2:31.
