Influential Courses: Critical Thinking

There are several courses that I’ve taken as a BCC student that have really helped me become a more well-rounded individual.  These are:

  • MAT 113-01: Survey of College Mathematics:  I took this math survey course in the middle of the pandemic (Fall 2020).  This course was influential for me because I’m an individual who struggles greatly with math, so to be able to take a survey course that draws from different topics of mathematics and be able to understand the concepts that were taught, was a huge success.  Please see the course description for more information: Introductory Topics in Math.  (Originally titled Survey of College Mathematics).
  • COM 104: Introduction to Interpersonal Communications:  I also took this course during the peak of the pandemic.  In this course, I learned how to relate to others and situations around me as well the factors involved to de-escalate or escalate situations.  Here is the link to the course description: Introduction to Interpersonal Communications.
  • EDU 154: Language and Literacy:  Taken this semester, this course introduced me to the various components of teaching students how to develop literacy skills.  The biggest take-away I had from this course was creating mini lesson plans for a final project.  In many respects, creating these lesson plans was actually extremely helpful to do in conjunction with building my Capstone Project for LAR 285: Liberal Arts Reflection: Capstone, because it provided a frame of reference for building the Learning Outcomes for the courses as outlined in the proposal for a new concentration.  Here is the link to the course description: Language and Literacy.
