In my first year writing course at BCC, we were asked what we believe to be the biggest problem facing America today. Having seen firsthand the ills of economic inequality, and how it impacts every facet of a person’s life, I felt there was no better issue to address.

I chose the topic of cultural exports, as I felt it allowed me to synthesize my interest in history, sociology, and communications/media studies into a single topic. My research revealed how beneficial cultural exports have proven to be for their country of origin, whether by creating an economic boon, projecting power/prestige, or furthering their cultural influence.
