I have chosen these two essays as they demonstrates my passion for the arts, what my career ambitions are as well as my hopes for my future academic trajectory. These pieces were written for the Introduction to Liberal Arts course at Berkshire Community College.
Reflection Essay One:
The Importance of Art In Local Communities
Reflection Essay One Assignment Task:
“This first Reflection Essay will ask you to gain greater familiarity with one of those liberal arts (or, another academic program of your choosing) at Berkshire Community College. By taking a close look at the way one academic program is structured, and various courses that are part of that program, you should develop a fuller understanding of that particular academic discipline. ”
Reflection Essay Three:
The Power of Healing Through Found Objects And The Stories They Tell
Reflection Essay Three Assignment Task:
“In many ways, the twin acts of storytelling and responding to stories are the quintessential liberal arts experiences. As painters, musicians, novelists, and speakers create their artwork, they think critically and creatively to share their vision, make a comment on the society they are presenting, and show us something about themselves. As readers, listeners, and viewers of art, we bring ourselves and our “ways of knowing” to the artwork. We think critically about the messages and techniques we see in the artwork, the social commentary the artist is making, the artist’s society and our society, and hopefully ourselves. By taking part in this complex meaning-making process, we use many different skills drawn from the different liberal arts (art, literature, history, sociology, psychology) to experience those complex messages deeply. And often, if the art is good enough, the process can feel instantaneous and effortless.”
