Hi. I am a professor of English at Berkshire Community College in Western Massachusetts, where I have been teaching since 2014. I am a proud graduate of Cal State University, Long Beach (Go Beach!) and of Purdue University (Boiler Up!). I teach first year composition and technical writing, as well as a spattering of literature and interdisciplinary courses, including for the Liberal Arts and Honors programs.
My research focuses on cross-racial relationships and power dynamics in the U.S., and the ways that American national myths, such as the American Dream and rugged individualism, affect these dynamics. Although my background is in literary analysis, I generally take an interdisciplinary approach to my work. I am also very much interested in the future of higher education, and that of rural community college in particular.
Outside of my work I have a number of interests, including reading (surprise, surprise) books on culture and history of the US, science fiction, economic history, medieval history, and baseball history. I also enjoy the novels of the late John le Carré, whom I consider one of the greatest spy novelists. I also enjoy collecting antique canning jars and vintage manual typewriters, which I love because of their utility of design and elegance.
