The Grade 3 Apprentice is responsible for performing all duties defined by Electrical Group Leader. This includes but is not limited to the installation, maintenance and repair of all equipment, components and systems to include, raw materials processing, papermaking and process related equipment, paper converting equipment, electric motors, fans and blowers, and material handling equipment.   These responsibilities include: preventative maintenance, trouble calls, night calls and carrying out project work in all areas of manufacturing.

The starting rate for this position is $21.04/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation of all electrical equipment – replacement, new and upgrades as required
  • Assist in the preventive maintenance and servicing of all assigned electrical equipment
  • Learn to trouble shoot and repair electrical equipment and systems as required
  • Practical safeguarding of all personnel and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity
  • Positive interaction and communication with staff, supervisors and customers
  • Maintain all documentation required, i.e., drawings, work orders, equipment history, etc.
  • Work closely with the Group Leader to plan, coordinate and schedule all work
  • Timely response to supervisor and customer requests
  • Demonstrate positive attitude to peers, supervisors, customers and subordinates
  • Obtain a Massachusetts Journeyman’s License within three years

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess basic math skills
  • Ability to accurately record and document all work
  • At least two years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment or equivalent
  • Ability to learn excellent trouble shooting, fault analysis and problem solving skills
  • Ability to assist and learn troubleshooting 480vac 3 phase motor control systems
  • Ability to assit and learn Variable Frequency Drives
  • Understand, follow and abide by, all applicable laws, regulations & codes (i.e., MGL, NEC, MEC, NFPA, OSHA, and BOCA)

Basic Knowledge of:

  • Electrical properties of mill equipment
  • Electro-mechanical (i.e., motors, generators, etc.) equipment technology and applications
  • Programmable logic control equipment, operations and programming.
  • Electrical protective devices
  • Use of electrical tools and installation/service equipment (i.e.: hydraulic benders, pullers, etc.)
  • AC and DC electrical circuits
  • Low & Medium Voltage Switchgear equipment, technology, maintenance and servicing
  • Use of test equipment for electrical measurements, data collection and fault analysis (i.e.: meters, meggers, oscilloscopes, recorders, etc.)
  • Reading and interpreting blueprint drawings, schematics and diagrams of electrical components/systems and installing, troubleshooting and repairing same from these
  • Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and call-ins as needed
  • Capable of working at elevated heights, i.e. from ladders, staging, elevated platform lifts, etc.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and utilize personal motor vehicle for transportation between Company locations

Boat Ramp Monitors – Seasonal

The Boat Ramp Monitor will monitor City boat launch ramps in order to maintain a visible presence and educate the public about laws and ordinances and provide enforcement as needed. Responsibilities:

  • Provides outreach and education to the public about the threat to our environment posed by invasive species such as Zebra Mussels
  • Monitors vessel traffic at City boat ramps in order to determine that all vessels launched are in compliance with the state’s Zebra Mussel regulation, and that all members of the public using the facilities are educated about the Zebra Mussel law
  • Refers members of the public to resources for obtaining an inspection, or having their vessel cleaned in appropriate cases
  • Perform office duties as needed

Outreach Worker

The City of Pittsfield is seeking a motivated and energetic individual to fill the role as the Shannon Grant’s Outreach Worker. The Shannon Grant is a state grant aimed at addressing risk factors that contribute to youth and gang violence. The Outreach Worker will work closely with the Shannon Grant Program Coordinator, and provide a critical link in the community to connect with hard-to-serve youth. Salary: $14.00/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Aim to recruit youth who will participate in the program, and build relations with those clients.
  • Connect youth with the community resources and services that would benefit them, including by acting as a liaison to facilitate access to services (after school activities, summer programs, employment, job readiness, and others).
  • Identify youth needs in the community, as well as work with them to set goals and determine paths to success as defined by them.
  • Play an important coaching and mentoring role, and conduct gang awareness presentations in schools.
  • Works closely with the Steering Committee that guides the program

Qualifications:

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills – with the proven ability in relationship building skills with youth, and to communicate effectively in public and with partner agencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Pittsfield community, particularly the youth population
