Peer Mentoring / Reading Leaders Program Mentor
I have always been fond of working with kids, a skill instilled in me from my mother, who ran a preschool for years. I participate in many mentoring programs, working with kids of various ages. It provides twofold experiance: one, it strengthens my ability to communicate, plan, and work with others to prepare experiances for the younger kids, and it allows me to work with kids. Working with kids teaches you patience, kindness, responsability, problem solving, how to think on the fly, and so much more. Overall, it has really matured me as a person and in my experiance, has been incredibly rewarding.
Honors Composition and Tutor Training
In this class, I gained a greater understanding of literary devices, rhetoric, and frameworks for information literacy. I aqquired new tools for structuring my essays, as well as what components to prioratize. Peer to peer revisions helped prepare me for working with students in the writing center. The class altogether strengthened my writing skills and allowed me to delve deeper into the fascinating nuances of composition. These skills will carry over to all my academic writings, formal speeches and presentations, composing and responding to emails, and all other written correspondances.
Intoduction to Sociology
This class has taught me to see the world in a completely new light. The class touched on important ,large-scale issues like racism, sexism, poverty, and class struggle. We also learned about societal rules, norms, and socialization. These things combined deeply impact our mindset, actions, values, and beliefs. It changes how I interact with the world, and gives me a greater understanding of how and why people act the way they do. Being aware of these social systems allows me to navigate them with more grace and ease, as well as react to situations with more understanding.
