Before

As I continue my advancement toward my twilight years, I have found acquiring a relatively comfortable pillow to rest my head upon has become quite daunting.  5 months ago, I found myself in a store where I found a Sealy copper gel / memory foam pillow.  After preliminary testing in the store, I thought I would take this home and give it a try.  It was great!  The memory foam. The cooling gel. What was not to love? Because prices of apartment rentals had become so volatile, I decided to buy a house; but that’s probably a topic for a another blog entry.  Since I’m on the topic, the house is nice enough, but it certainly is not without its little quirks.  One of these quirks was this indescribable aroma in my bedroom that I could best classify as some random volatile organic compound.  I sniffed around the windows.  Nope.  I snorted the carpeting.   Crawling about on my hands and knees with my nose burrowed into the  carpet pile.  Nothing.  Yet, that mysterious “bouquet” persisted.  A couple of months later, it happened.  Huh!? What’s this in my hair and on my face?…and hands?!  I turned on the light and found the upper part of my bedding was soaked in, well, ooze. Pillow ooze.   Since the pillowcase was saturated, it was clear the I had found the smoking gun.  The scent that had eluded me for the past few months, had increased in its intensity.   It was clear what the issue was all along. Blasted pillow.   I never knew gel pillows even leaked.  If I had prior knowledge, I certainly never would have bought one.  The images embedded in the blog entry of course aren’t mine, but the before and after visuals represent the turn of events accurately.  Besides, I really liked the pillow.  I liked that pillow enough to use a box cutter knife in an attempt to dissect the gooey portion off of the pillow in a valiant yet futile attempt to salvage what was left of my snooze time comfort bliss.  That didn’t pan out of course, so I swept up the remains from the floor and put what was left of my pillow into the trash pail.  For the record, the  Sealy gel memory foam copper pillow lasted 3 months.
