Nature and your Brain

Nature has been found to have incredible effects on the brain, from reduced stress levels to better cognitive functioning and problem solving and while we would all love to benefit from these effects it can be difficult to find the time to get outdoors. Fortunately, we can bring nature to us. A study done by Scientific ReportsĀ in March of 2017 shows that even listening to the sounds of the natural world can allow us to see some of the benefits of being outdoors. The study showed that the sounds “created an inward-directed focus, which occurs during states of anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression.” So while we may not be able to take a 3 day trip into the wilderness we are able to attain some of the wonderful benefits of the outdoors from our own homes.
