Students must be physically able to go up and down banks along the streams to do this work. 2 or more students are needed.
There would be an indoor training to teach students how to fill out the attached Stream Crossing Survey Form (attached along with instruction booklet), followed by an outdoor training actually gathering the data at a stream crossing. Ideally after that the students can continue to collect data on more crossings.
The students will be asked to take a variety of measurements including height and width of the crossing at each end. Depth of the water. If there is a drop from the outlet, there are several measurements to be taken to describe that drop.
The ideal situation is students working in pairs or threes, one of whom would have a car that they could use to travel to the sites. There are crossings through out the county, so we can tailor the crossings to where the students can travel to the easiest.
BEAT will provide the tape measure, yard stick, GPS unit, and camera for each group of students.
