Berkshire County Forecast-Saturday, March 1

SummaryA cold front will slide through the county in the early morning hours on Sunday and bring us a period of light snow or snow showers between 3 or 4 am and 9 am with some lingering flurries until noon. Most places will see only a dusting to 1/2″ of snow but there could be as much as 1/2″-1″ in a few spots over the elevated terrain. The front will then stall well to our south and a weak surface low pressure system will develop along the front over the southeastern U.S. and then slide rapidly eastward off the Mid-Atlantic coast well to our south. In fact, the jet stream is so flat that the low will dissipate as it moves off the coast. As a result, the northern edge of the snow shield associated with this “storm” will stay to our south. There is only the chance of a few flurries Sunday night, predominantly in South County. No accumulating snow is expected. Unfortunately, the same push of arctic air that is flattening the jet stream and keeping the low weak and well to our south will bring us unseasonably cold temperatures (again) from Monday through at least Wednesday, with highs in the teens and lows below zero to single digits above zero.
