Berkshire County Forecast – Wednesday, Nov. 16

The following forecast is provided by Joan Grossman, in conjunction with theĀ  instructor, as part of lab work for the Introduction to Meteorology course:

Summary:

A low pressure system presently located over the lower Mississippi Valley will move through today and tonight bringing a prolonged period of steady light to moderate rain. With the passage of this storm, northwest winds around the backside of the low will bring seasonably cold air in to the region from the upper Midwest. As a result, it will be breezy and colder Thursday and Friday. Moisture carried by the wind from the Great Lakes will cause cloudy conditions with a chance of a lake effect snow or rain shower on Thursday but it will clear out and turn colder Thursday night and Friday as High pressure builds into the area.

Wednesday

Rain developing this afternoon. About 0.25 inches of rainfall by evening. Probability of precipitation near 100%.

High temperature in the low 50s.

Southeast wind at 5-10 mph.

Wednesday Night

Rain, tapering off around midnight. An additional 0.25 inches of rainfall possible. Probability of precipitation near 100%.

Temperatures dropping to the mid to upper 30s by morning.

Southeast wind shifting to northwest and increasing to 10-20 mph.

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, breezy and colder. Chance of a snow or rain shower. Probability of precipitation 30%.

Temperatures holding almost steady, with high temperatures ranging from the upper 30s over the hills to the low 40s in South County, with most places near 40.

Northwest wind at 10-20 mph with higher gusts, particularly over the hills.

Thursday Night

Clearing and seasonably cold. Remaining quite breezy.

Low temperature in the mid 20s.

Northwest wind at 10-20 mph with higher gusts.

Friday

Sunny and cold. A little less breezy.

High temperature in the mid 30s in the hilltowns and upper 30s in the lower elevations. High around 40 in the lower elevations of South County (e.g. Great Barrington, Sheffield).

West winds at 10-15 mph.
