Each year the BCC Foundation makes available $6,000 for faculty/student learning initiatives.
The committee met this week to review the proposals that were submitted and awarded funds for three of them:
Frank Schickor and Tom Tyning – Leading a trip with students from HON 298E class to three museums in the mid-west to study critical thinking skills and the scientific method in relation to the origins of life
Lois Cooper – Leading a trip to New York City where her students will present their own Segunda vida projects at the Northeast Conference of the Teaching of Foreign Languages. They will talk to an audience of language teachers about what they learned about the different Spanish-speaking countries they “adopted” when they created their own Hispanic identities, what it took to produce their online portfolios, and the technologies they mastered
Bill Corby and Chuck Prescott – Taking a group of students to view the Aaron Douglas Exhibition at the Schomburg Center for research in Black Culture in Harlem, NY. The students will be gaining an appreciation for the work in the exhibit and reflecting on how the exhibit influenced them. They will also be reflecting on the Harlem Renaissance.
