Instructors new to technology sometimes think they can simply record their standard 50-minute classroom lecture and put it online. And many are discovering that students tune out way before the end of the lecture. Once again, “reverse benefits” may emerge from online teaching: a shorter lecture may be more targeted, hold student attention, and be interspersed with more active learning segments.
