ASSISTANT TAX COLLECTOR

DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE – OFFICE OF THE TAX COLLECTOR

The City of Pittsfield is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Assistant Tax Collector within the Office of the Tax Collector.  The Assistant Tax Collector provides technical assistance in support of the office’s responsibilities, including but not limited to: collecting and receiving revenue; assisting banks, finance companies, law offices, and members of the general public with information pertaining to current and delinquent real estate taxes, personal property taxes, water & sewer charges, and municipal liens; supervises and assists Principle Clerks; and performs all other duties as assigned. The Assistant Tax Collector shall assist the Tax Collector in the performance of their duties, and shall perform those duties when the Collector is absent or there is a vacancy in that position. The Assistant Tax Collector will also serve as the Parking Clerk/Hearings Officer for the City.

Candidates shall possess the following required/preferred qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, Associate’s degree in related field strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years’ of relevant experience in financial, banking, or municipal setting is required, with thorough working knowledge on general laws pertaining to tax collection.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to handle and deal effectively with the public.
  • Previous experience with cash handling procedures and working in a fast-paced office environment highly desired.
  • Proficient computer skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office programs and other software programs as needed for the job.

Monday – Friday

35 Hours per week, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Salary:  $20.28 – $21.31 per hour
