SIGNAL MAINTAINER
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Pittsfield seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Signal Maintainer. The signal maintainer installs, maintains, modifies, adjusts, and repairs traffic signal systems, as well as street lights, fire alarm signals, police signal systems, and/or other emergency signal or control systems. Other responsibilities of the signal maintainer include but are not limited to:
– Maintains storage batteries, performs scheduled tests and troubleshooting of circuits
– Installs and repairs electrical and signal wiring, including underground or aerial wiring.
– Maintenance of building and equipment electrical systems, circuitry, and other electrical systems.
– Supervises contractors and other employees at a lower skill level
– Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24 hour day to respond to weather related or emergency needs.The successful candidate will possess two years’ experience in electrical work, in addition to a Journeyman or Master Electrician’s License. Graduation from a trade or vocational school at the high school level with a major in electrical practices may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The candidate must also be certified (or be certifiable) as a Traffic Signal Inspector. Other desired characteristics include thorough understanding of public police and fire service communication systems, and the ability to work outdoors in all seasons.

40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
7:30AM – 4:00PM
Salary: $42,183/YR
